Q: I bought a packet of feminised seeds and everything was going great, when all of a sudden one of my plants turns out to be a dude! What happened? A: What you're referring to as male is actually not a male plant - it is impossible for feminized seeds to turn into male plants. But it is possible for feminized seeds to grow into hermaphrodites. Hermaphrodites are plants with male and female characteristics. These *will* be able to fertilise your entire crop, so as soon as you spot a hermie, be sure to isolate it from the female plants or even destroy it! Plants may change sex naturally, but in feminized seeds, hermaphroditism is the result of stress more often than not. Make sure that the temperature is even, there are no light leaks in the dark period, you don't over- or underfertilise, and you don't transplant the seedlings/plants to new containers more than is absolutely necessary. |
